Rush - La Villa Strangiato at Pinkpop 1979

workingman asked:

I was 19 at that time and saw that performance, it was my first Rush concert.

This was the last performance of the European tour in 1979.
Alex Lefeson hurt his finger because he had a very wild night with his wife,
his finger came between the mattress and the bed.

Info came from: Tjerk Lammers, he was there press manager from WEA record company at that time.

It’s too bad the original intro isn’t included, but this is still a great song. I hate when guitarists improvise so much live that they veer too far off the original melody & ‘landmark’ notes/phrases of a song, but Alex never does. Plus, he stays true to the original notes & melody in his solos without sounding too rehearsed or robotic. Great balance of feel and integrity of the original song. :-)

Geddy, retire that Jazz and get back to the Ric please. He gets the most unique sound without using a pick…

Thats my holy grail to duplicate that sound and so far it’s been a 30 year quest..

Rush just as they were hitting their stride. What a sound they made for a 3 piece band!

Check for “rush awards and nominations” on wikipedia, there should be something about charts and record sales, too.

If you listen to classic rock stations they’re on at least twice a day.

    Perfecto!
this band is what inspired me to waste $5000+ on musical equiptment, and hundreds thousands of hours in moldy basements, old studios, and dirty garages… we never came close to playing this, but it was fun trying!

Very inspirational - Thanks guys- for getting me thru the 70’s and 80’s!
God Blessed the Great Up North with Rush!
    =)

I wish Rush was played on the radio more. I’ve only ever heard them there twice!! No wonder they’re so underrated.
